She struggles with not being able to express her feelings about her sadness with other people, so her music is a way to let go. She associates models with extreme sadness. She projects herself into their lives because she feels like she can relate to always being looked at and scrutinized wherever, whenever, whatever she does or doesn’t do. In the years of her newfound fame, she tried to act as if she was happy, but this song screams that she wasn’t, and it’s more or less a cry for help. Almost every line has a reference to depression.

She says that models are our society's role models for how girls have to look and act. “The standards” of what we should work to become. The line “was I made from a broken mold” explains her feelings about not being as “perfect” as the models and people around her.

“We’ve made every mistake” Billie struggled with loving herself at the time she wrote this song. She believed she couldn’t do anything right. But she kept pushing through.

“Only you know the way that I break” Referring to herself as you and being emotionally aware of what makes her sad and what could shut her down, but not letting anyone know.
