I think this song is about John and Paul. "You and I've got memories, longer than the road that stretches out ahead." I think this refers to their friendship. 'Longer than the road that stretches out ahead,' they know each other better than anyone, they wrote most of their songs together, they've always been and always will love each other, even after the band breaks up. The song is off their last album (actually recorded before Abbey Road but released after), when recording they (the Beatles) knew they wanted a break. Even though they were sick of each other, they knew they'd forever be best friends. Even if they were doing different things.

I think the raincoats and standing solo part refers to the photo shoot for HELP!, just look at the cover of the album. The two of them..
